Minimally Invasive Procedures

Facial Rejuvenation – Injectables
Minimally invasive cosmetic procedures are incredibly popular and accounted for 88% of all cosmetic procedures in 2010! These products have changed the scope and practice of cosmetic and plastic surgery.

The procedures do not involve suturing or cutting, and thus the word, minimally invasive. They do however; offer a new dimension in facial rejuvenation. The products are used to reduce or eliminate wrinkles, fill areas of depression or volume loss, reduce sagging folds and enhance the lips.

The various injectables have different benefits, strengths and applications.

Botox

Botox, is used to reduce the appearance of the lines that form between the eyebrows, furrows in the forehead and elimination of "crow's feet" along the sides of the eyes. Botox is the undisputed leader in the minimally invasive product line. Botox injections can be administered every 3-4 months to maintain the desired youthful appearance. The injections can be used in conjunction with the facial fillers to provide maximum enhancement.

Dysport

Dysport, is a product similar to Botox, but produced by a different company. It has the same inclinations to minimize the appearance of frown lines that form between the eyebrows. Dysport has a faster onset of action, within 24 hours, unlike Botox which can take 2-3 days to present results.

Juvederm

Juvederm is a gel filler used to treat wrinkles and fill folds, like the nasolabial folds in between the nose and the lip. It can also be used to smooth out the area in between the eyebrows as well, and elevate acne scars. It is made of a sugar substance that is naturally found in the body making it a great option for patients as there is little chance of an allergic reaction. Juvederm can be used to create the appearance of fuller lips.

Radiesse

Radiesse is a calcium-based gel skin filler treatment used to diminish deeper facial lines and wrinkles, specifically nasolabial folds, which are lines that run from the corners of the nose to the corners of the mouth. It tends to last longer than other fillers. The formula can stimulate the production of new collagen and rebuilds the skin's foundation which gives it volume, making the skin appear more youthful.

Restylane

Restylane is a gel filler made from the natural substance hyaluronic acid that is used to correct fine lines, enhance the shape of cheeks or chins, fill nasolabial folds and make the area under the eyes appear more youthful. It can also be used to make lips appear fuller by adding volume to them.

Sculptra

Sculptra is called the "liquid facelift" since it adds the most volume to the face and is the one product that has been proven to stimulate collagen production. Sculptra is not a "line filler" like the other products and has specific indications for its use. This product requires the most follow up and frequency of injections initially, but the results can last up to two years.

Latisse
Latisse is a product released with FDA approval which grows eyelashes when applied topically. It is a gel-like substance which when applied to eyelashes with regular, easy applications will make them grow longer, thicker and darker. Latisse® users will begin to see eyelash growth at 4 weeks with full results after 16 weeks, nearly doubling the length and fullness of the lashes.

What to Expect after a Facial Rejuvenation Procedure

There are near immediate results noted with all of the above products. The muscle relaxers like Botox and Dysport last about 4 months, and the filling agents last up to one year. With continued use some permanency can be achieved.

All of the procedures can be easily and well performed within 15- 30 minutes, but of course, there is no rush to perform. Tiny needle injections are required for all of the procedures and a topical skin numbing agent is used to reduce or eliminate the minimal pain involved in the procedures.

Dr. Mazzara has been using fillers since Collagen was available nearly 20 years ago and Botox about 15 years ago. He has seen each and every other product come to market and has used them all with great success.
